Why gross side-hustle revenue can mislead
Platform statements may show what customers paid or what the platform transferred, but neither figure necessarily reflects the cost of producing the income. Mileage, equipment, supplies, transaction fees and unpaid administration can materially change the result.
How to test the opportunity
- Use a conservative revenue estimate.
- Count time spent waiting, driving, communicating and doing administrative work.
- Keep a separate tax reserve rather than treating all profit as spendable.
- Compare the resulting hourly earnings with other uses of your time.
