What this 2026 federal tax estimate includes

The calculation adds the ordinary income entered, subtracts entered adjustments and the larger of the 2026 standard deduction or entered itemized deductions, then applies the 2026 ordinary-income tax brackets. Entered credits reduce the preliminary tax but not below zero. Withholding and estimated payments determine the projected refund or amount due.

Standard deductions used

$16,100 for single or married filing separately, $32,200 for married filing jointly and $24,150 for head of household.

What is not calculated

State tax, self-employment tax, payroll tax, capital-gain rates, AMT, penalties, phaseouts and eligibility rules require additional analysis.

Best next step

Use the official IRS withholding estimator for paycheck decisions, then use a trusted filing provider for the final return.

Why your actual return can differ

Tax results depend on details that a simplified calculator cannot fully evaluate: eligibility tests, refundable credits, qualified dividends, investment gains and losses, business expenses, health-insurance subsidies, additional taxes, multiple states and law changes. Treat this result as a planning range rather than a completed return.
