Savings growth

High-Yield Savings Calculator

Estimate how an initial balance and recurring monthly deposits could grow at a stated APY.

The estimate assumes a constant APY and end-of-month deposits. Actual account rates can change.

How savings interest grows

Interest can compound on both the opening balance and prior interest. Regular contributions can become a larger part of the final balance than interest, particularly over shorter periods.

Use realistic assumptions

High-yield savings APYs are generally variable. Compare a lower-rate scenario as well as today’s advertised rate, and confirm fees, withdrawal limits, minimum balances and deposit-insurance coverage.

Savings calculator questions

Can the APY change?

Yes. Savings account APYs are commonly variable and may change after you open the account.

Are taxes included?

No. Interest may be taxable depending on your circumstances and jurisdiction.

Educational estimate only. Actual interest, fees, taxes, account terms and availability can differ.

Estimate savings growth using APY, deposits and time

Savings growth depends on starting balance, additional deposits, rate, compounding and time. APY reflects compounding over a year and is generally more useful than a simple stated rate when comparing deposit products with similar terms.

How to use this page

The calculator compounds the balance and adds recurring deposits using the selected assumptions. If the institution quotes APY, avoid treating it as a nominal rate with an additional compounding boost unless the calculator specifically asks for that conversion.

Practical exampleCompare two accounts using the same balance and deposit schedule. A modest rate difference may matter less in the short term than fees, minimum-balance requirements or the consistency of deposits.

Inputs to verify

  • Confirm whether the rate is variable or guaranteed for a term.
  • Subtract monthly fees that are not waived.
  • Stay within applicable deposit-insurance rules and ownership categories.

Common questions

Is interest taxable?

It may be taxable depending on jurisdiction and account type; consult official tax guidance.

Why is my bank result different?

Deposit timing, daily-balance methods, rate changes and rounding can cause differences.
